Horizon of Memory
Here space is everything for time ceases to quicken memory. Memory- what a strange thing it is- does not record duration, in the Bergsoinian sense of the word. We are unable to relive duration that has been destroyed. We can only think of it in a line of abstract time that is derived of all thickness… Memories are motionless and the more securely they are fixed in space the sounder they are.
-Gaston Bachelard
In this artwork, memory is stored in the phenomena of the space and the objective sensorial experience gathers those memories to consciousness. The trace of the elements within the space gives the memory a conscious presence within the mind of the perceiver. These elements form the phenomena that allow the perceiver to become aware of their own presence in the context of the specific space that contains those elements. Therefore, the observable qualities of the space stir the phenomena of memory and make us aware of our interaction within the space.
