Consider the wind in a warm spring day, the phenomena of the wind is perceived by its trace, that is to say, we perceive its effect upon the phenomenal elements. We see leaves and blades of grass gently flowing in waves and we hear the rustling of as the wind moves through. We feel the warm embrace of the wind as it envelops us and we smell the moist air from ocean beyond. We even taste the saltiness carried within its being. The phenomenon of the wind is thus given its presence by the trace of the other phenomenal elements that set it within its boundaries. We perceive the wind in its wholeness that is to say we perceive the separate phenomena gathered together give the wind its presence. The phenomenon of the wind emerges within the interwoven presence of the different phenomenal elements. The aesthetic experience is similarly beheld in that it emerges in between the phenomenal elements within the artwork and the perceiver.
